Modern waterfowl and upland game hunting has always been accompanied by the controversy of crippling losses, i.e., ducks or geese are knocked down and go unretrieved. Wounding loss in migratory waterfowl and upland game bird hunting is becoming an issue in both hunting and anti-hunting communities. Research conducted by Cooperative North American Shotgunning Education Program (CONSEP) indicates that there are several causes contributing to wounding loss. A major cause is poor shooting skills of hunters. Learning the correct way to shoot a shotgun, understanding shot patterns, and determining the distance to your target are the three main objectives to any wingshooting program. Our program at Woodduck Alley goes one step further. We simulate real field situations that enables the hunter to improve his or her self confidence in the sport. Our one and two day programs take shooters through a number of teaching stations as well as practical evolutions that are designed to introduce and /or enhance wingshooting skills. Tom Crow, the Chief Instructor, is a National Sporting Clays Association Level II Instructor as well as an NRA shotgun instructor. He has been a waterfowl hunter and professional guide for over 30 years. He brings this knowledge and experience to a program that is very educational and fun for the students. The Workshop Goals are to: Learn safe and proper shotgun handling and shooting skills Improve distance estimation to field targets Understand chokes and shot patterns Increase awareness of waterfowl flight patterns and how to reduce wounding losses Provide realistic practical simulations to prepare the hunter for the field
Participants will learn how to address issues such as:
