Habitat Development & Wildlife Management

The Key to having and keeping wildlife in an area to appreciate and hunt all comes from recognizing and practicing good wildlife management.  Wildlife management includes the establishment, enhancement or restoration of lands for the purpose of establishing and preserving a place for a specific type of wildlife.  Woodduck Alley is committed to offering courses in wildlife and habitat management in order to stimulate and/or encourage good wildlife management practices.

Courses for 2007 -2008:

bulletIntroduction to Wildlife Management  ( WM-501 ) 8 hours   $125

This course looks at target wildlife, their needs, and the resources that a specific area has to offer to determine what "best management" practices should be deployed  and/or enhanced.

Participants will tour a number of different wildlife management practices being deployed at Woodduck Alley and have the opportunity to evaluate their performance.

For more information on this course, please e-mail us or call so we can send you our brochure on this very interesting and rewarding class.

bulletFood Plots & Habitat Establishment  ( WM 502 ) This course is 16 hours and involves 2 separate course dates.  The next course will start Spring 2008.         Course cost:     $300

This is a hands-on course where the class will actually design, prepare, and plant a wildlife food plot.  The class will identify and choose a target wildlife species for the food plot.  We will discuss carrying capacities and habitat requirements for that species.

The food plot components will be selected by the class, planted at the end of the first day of class. A specific area of the plot will be identified to be watered every week until the second class.  Due to uncontrollable weather conditions, this will become the "control area" so the class will get to see what to expect.

The second class will take place approximately 60 days after the first class in order to evaluate the performance of the plot the class planted. The importance of the second class is for the student to see how their initial planning and plant selections turned out.

We will look at what improvements could be made and will establish a maintenance plan for the plot.

For more information about this course, please e-mail or call and ask for our color brochure.
